Weight Capacity

Catwinger wing rails have been tested to carry two sailors on the rail, for combined crew weight of 450 lbs. The photo above is one test team, with combined weight of 325 lbs.

Can the rails carry more? It's possible, but any piece of boat hardware has its limits. Thus far in testing on lake and ocean, at speeds over 15 knots, we have not experienced any bending or breaking.

Important safety note....the wing rail assembly is designed to carry weight while the boat hulls are freely floating in the water. Sailors should not sit on the wing rails while hulls are sitting on the ground, on beach rollers, or on the trailer. Wait until the hulls are fully in the water before loading up the wing rails. The water creates a natural cushioning effect on the entire assembly, and dampens any shock of sudden loads applied to the wing rails.

The wing rails are not likely to break if you sit upon them on shore, but the stresses are greatly reduced if you sit while floating.
